Flat Kumihimo

I believe that the wide flat braids, many with inset patterns such as flowers, date from the Meiji or Taisho period. The braids from that time period tend to be flamboyant and may match the haori lining, rather than the exterior fabric. In the older textiles, the linings may contrast, rather than complement the body fabric.
